Madagascar palm (Pachypodium lamerei)

The stunning and impressive Madagascar palm is an excellent indoor tree and brings a beautiful tropical feel to the interior. Despite its English name, the Madagascar palm belongs to the oleander plants and its natural growth environment is in South Africa and especially in the southern part of the island of Madagascar, a country of sand and limestone. The stem of the tree branches off as it ages, and a fine crown of several stems forms a crown. The tree blooms with the large white fragrant flowers, which can be up to 10 cents in diameter.

The Madagascar palm thrives inside in a bright place and is especially grateful if it gets a few hours a day of sunlight. If you want to move the tree to the terraces in the summer, make sure the place is warm and sheltered from the wind and especially from the rain.

The tree enjoys plenty of watering. In the winter, the tree may drop the leaves due to lack of light but in the spring they grow back. Fertilize from May to August with liquid cactus fertilizer according to the instructions on the package.

Madagascar palm need to be changed into a larger pot every two years. Always use a deep pot with a gravel or perlite bottom. When replacing the pot take special care of the roots and spikes to avoid damaging them

NOTE! Madagascar palm fluid is toxic. Choose a habitat for the tree where the leaves of the plant do not accidentally enter the mouths of children or animals.
